Nanoparticle pollution – a new risk to sustainability

Not of direct concern for Pett Projects, but of interest to anyone concerned with sustainable development, is the developing research into the impacts of nanotechnology on human and ecosystem health.

A recent summary of research from the EU highlighted a series of papers released on issues ranging from carcinogen potential, effects on DNA through skin applications, interaction with microbes in the soil and in water, uptake through the food chain and exposure to people in the workplace.

The EU have a Nanotechnology Action Plan relating to this area.

For access to the research summaries see Special issue 12, April 2009, Nanotechnologies here.
